COVID has put a burden on church activities everywhere. We have halted many activities or have limited them due to the restrictions that COVID has placed upon us all. Listed here are some of the activities we have enjoyed and hope to enjoy again fully in the near future or activities that have resumed at least partially.
Adult and children's Sunday School is an important focus of our Sundays. Our Adult Sunday School is lead by one of our members from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday mornings. Movies and videos are often used as part of the lesson plan.
Children's Sunday School takes place at the same time. A curriculum is selected by the teachers, with arts and crafts augmenting the lessons being taught. The children's Sunday School class often does special singing and presentations for holidays like Christmas and Easter. Students lead worship once or twice each year under the guidance of the Sunday School teachers.
Sunday School has been resumed since September with a break over the Christmas holidays. Sunday School will resume in February 2022.
We are blessed to have a excellent, professional organist as our music director. Music is selected based upon what the sermon and scripture of that Sunday will be.
Normally our choir is an important part of our worship service. Since COVID we had suspended regular choir singing during worship for the most part. During special occasions and events the choir will perform for that occasion.
At times we enjoy a children's choirs lead by the Sunday School teachers.
Each summer we have had very successful VBS programs. Church Leadership, Christian Education, the Presbyterian Women group and the congregation come together to support this activity. We have suspended VBS recently but hope to begin again soon.
Thanksgiving opens the Holiday Season for us. Our Deacons collect food items for the local Food Pantry. In addition we as a congregation collect personal items and gloves, scarves, and hats for the homeless of Wilkes Barre. Our ongoing work for One Great Hour of Sharing during lent and Advent Special Offerings to support other mission work is a corner stone of our congregation.
